Rider to Celebrate Family Weekend, Founder’s Day 2009

Family Weekend has something for everyone, including performances, athletic games and the Founder’s Day program, which will recognize 61 Andrew J. Rider Scholars.

Family Weekend Registration – Thayer Lounge (Princeton Campus), Bart Luedeke Center Lobby (Lawrenceville Campus), 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Families can meet some of the Family Weekend staff, enjoy some light refreshments, and receive a schedule of the weekend events and tickets for specific performances.
Schola Open Rehearsal – Bristol Chapel (Princeton Campus), 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
The Westminster Schola Cantorum is one of three curricular choirs that form the core of the Westminster experience. Composed of students in their second year of study at Westminster, the Choir prepares students for the Westminster Symphonic Choir, which performs and records with the world’s great orchestras.
University Chorale Open Rehearsal – Gill Chapel (Lawrenceville Campus), 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Now in its second season, the Rider University Chorale is composed of Rider University students selected by audition. Conducted by Ronnie Oliver, Jr., the ensemble performs both classic and contemporary works from the choral repertory. It has also collaborated with the Westminster Chapel Choir in Princeton and with the Rider University Choir in Lawrenceville.
Symphonic Choir Rehearsal – Playhouse (Princeton Campus), 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Recognized as one of the world’s leading choral ensembles, the Westminster Symphonic Choir has recorded and performed with major orchestras under virtually every internationally known conductor of the last 75 years. The choir has performed over 300 times with the New York Philharmonic. In 2009-2010, the choir will sing with the New York Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony and The Orchestra of St. Luke’s.

Families can "pay at the door" and enjoy a meal in the Dining Commons or Daly Dining Hall for $7.75 per person.
Chapel Choir Open Rehearsal - Bristol Chapel (Princeton Campus), 1:10 – 2 p.m.
The Westminster Chapel Choir is composed of first-year students at Westminster Choir College of Rider University. Each fall the ensemble performs at Westminster’s Family Weekend Concert and at “An Evening of Readings and Carols.” Founded in 1949, the Westminster Chapel Choir takes its name from Westminster’s rich history of leadership in the field of sacred music and from the time when the choir sang in campus chapel services.
Westminster Choir Open Rehearsal – Playhouse (Princeton Campus), 4:30 – 6 p.m.
A rehearsal of the Westminster Choir under the direction of Dr. Joe Miller; Westminster Choir has set the standard for choral excellence for 80 years.
Williamson Voices Open Rehearsal – Bristol Chapel (Princeton Campus), 4:30 - 6 p.m.
The Westminster Williamson Voices is a highly select ensemble that emphasizes world music and the music of our time. It is named for Westminster’s founder, John Finley Williamson, who believed that choral music be performed at the highest level and should be accessible to all. One of America’s most respected choral conductors and educators, James Jordan is internationally recognized for his theories of rhythm pedagogy and movement, which are widely applied in teaching rhythm to children and adults.

Emerging Leaders/Multicultural Student Leadership Institute Family Reception – Mercer Room, Daly Dining Hall (Lawrenceville Campus), 5:30 p.m.
Families of student participants of the Emerging Leaders and MSLI programs are welcome to attend this reception to celebrate their successes.
Cranberry King & Queen Competition – Bart Luedeke Center Theater (Lawrenceville Campus), 6 p.m.
The conclusion to the month-long race for Cranberry King and Queen. The event is capped off with the coronation of the new King and Queen.
Student Entertainment Council Film “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” – Sweigart Auditorium (Lawrenceville Campus), 7:30 p.m.
Ice Hockey vs. St. Joseph’s University - Loucks Ice Center (The Lawrenceville School), 8:15 p.m.
Greg Giraldo – Comedian – Bart Luedeke Center Theater, 9 p.m.
The Student Entertainment Council presents acclaimed comedian Greg Giraldo, best known for being the top roaster on the Comedy Central Roasts.

Under the musical direction of Professor Daniel Beckwith and the stage direction of Marc Verzatt, Westminster Opera Theater will rehearse Albert Herring, by Benjamin Britten. The opera program at Westminster is under the direction of Professor Beckwith and in recent years has performed Il Re Pastore and La Clemenza di Tito by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Dialogue of the Carmelites by Francis Poulenc.

If you've always wondered what it takes to get a show ready for opening night, visit this open tech rehearsal of excerpts from "Rent," Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer-prize winning Broadway musical, to be produced by the Fine Arts Department on the Lawrenceville campus. Come view our students as they put the finishing touches on the production in preparation for opening night later in the week!
